5 MEN OUT ON THE DRY+TERRIFYING LAKEBED…..AUGUST 2009………………………………………………………………………………….
…yep.all met @ sunhillow @ 8,grabbed slideshowMan’s car and went round to pick up john @ redfern station…kurt lugged his equipment,ken,goran,costumes and enthusiasm and we were off down the M5 to lake george_________________
much banter and film talk ensued–alas no CD player and i had not brought cassettes (old toyota)…still we enjoyed the scenery—golden poplars in autumnal gold—THE BIG MERINO flashed by and we stopped at the coollabah tree cafe for coffee and i had funchat with bunch of old harley riders when i noticed fuel dribbling from one of their tanks—they were off to jindabyne (no ken, not to a knee-cappin’) hahhhahaha
then onto the lake…we parked and walked down the fenceline a bit to be away from highway noise+onlookers…instantly i felt trust in kurt and his camerawork/ideas/decisions…it was up to me to direct the actors’ improvisations+motivations…and we took take after take…oh did i mention goran+john were tied together by rope, the cop being led by the tracker………………ken did sound and blocked the whistling wind with my hat (got sunburnt as result hahhaha)…the guys all discussed ideas so i’d occasionally wander off and find sheep bones (jaws+fibulas) and quartz rocks,old campfires,weathered old fence posts etc….looking back to see the 4 figures framed against the infinite hazy vastness of the lake—–amazing…….it could ‘ve been a U2 cover hahhahahaha……………………….
on and on we worked,kurt trying different angles,following reaction shots…i say we need to go out 2 more times….do longer takes and now that john+the G-man know and trust eachother,develop longer dialogue scenes….scenes that have nothing to do with tracking but reveal character etc…will go to kurt’s house next weekend to view rushes—he got about 40 mins in the can_______________________actually like lululluul he lives a stone’s throw from a hells angels HQ—all CCTV + large metal doors—-creepy—-
so we got back in the toyota and headed back to steak+kidney via McDonalds in goulburn,near THE BIG F*CKIN’ MERINO (still without an anus)…we wolfed down the burgers while the vegetarian ken looked green—hhahahahhahaa
so we got home,dropped K off with camera /sound gear at his place,john in waterloo and G-man+ken @ ATVP….after i trained back to join them for some well-earned coopers ale + chatted with MrPickafightBooks + B + luisa and lew who runs HARDWARE GALLERY where i will show “THE DARK ANGEL OF NO CONSEQUENCE” for stargazing event….liked lew,a no-nonsense wood framer who just loves presenting art without doing it himself—-lots of laughs and groans (current ATVP show has 2 pushy twin girls being demanding,never leaving so B was being grumpy/funny….i poured myself into a taxi for home and bed
exhausted.

yeah still here @sando on free internet tion idea for next film–hopefully shooting in 2010— COLD CLIMATE WINE
—it’s a vinyard fantasia filmed in heightened laconic realism as the 2nd part of my southern tableland gothic trilogy…will be filmed in Yass + Gunning…a father and daughter run a vinyard but the old man is ignoring the ripening grapes to sculpt wooden figures of his dead wife (which he talks to)…the girl is bewildered and dreams of winning the cold climate wine prize @ the royal Yass agricultural show—–she also plays piano…and recites Ezekial in voice-over….what she doesn’t realise is that a young koori guy has always loved her,he used to sit on his horse and listen to her practice—have i said everyone rides horses??? even the guy’s in rock band (they look like a gang of outlaws….the sexy mature aged art dealer from sydney—rides a large white stallion—
i’m hoping to convince max cullen, famed oz actor/sculptor to be the father, he runs a gallery in gunning outta the old cinema there—uncle of bad boy painter adam cullen,famous for dragging road kill around by his ankle—-the father has driven away his vietnamese workforce and is becoming more unhinged—there’ll be defrocked priests,rock+roll+sex,lust,wine….my usual preoccupations–filmed in colour and having the charm of AS YOU LIKE IT + MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM where,in the forest of arden ETC,unlikely couples form,mistaken identities,lust ,laughter,humans become animals,animals become human….the father ,a classical music snob (based on my art school tutor peter taylor)’s first words to john when he discovers him spying on the daughter,as he reads the t-shirt john wears is ” what the fuck is THE WHITE STRIPES?”
the sophisticated art dealer meets one of the tattooed rockers,who leans into and breathes “you sure are a good lookin’ woman!” ” yes i know, i am aren’t i?! she will also try and seduce the sculptor much to the jealousy+anger of the daughter…….BUT NO PLOT SPOILERS______________________________
again wrote this awhile ago________sanity prevailed and noone rides horses much…hope to scout locations in hunter valley..vineyards..forests..most of the action will be at night with spotlights and extra lighting…
need a producer and 3 leads who are professional actors…

Pedro TV is a Youtube channel based in the thriving arts scene of the inner west. Rather than being based on desires to make bucketloads of cash, the motive has been described by Peter McGuiness as “initially an archive to put short films about paintings, exhibitions and that sort of thing online.” So rather than being sold out with advertising and sponsorship, Pedro TV gives an honest account, unbiased interviews, artistic vision and a fresh perspective on the grass-roots art and arts scene of Marrickville, Newtown and the surrounding suburbs.
Based around the Vanishing Point art gallery in Newtown, Pedro TV is based on humble, honest motives. “I realised it would be a good idea to archive the art scene in the inner west, all of the artist and painters. Then I started doing music videos, I just finished one for a guy in L.A,” says Peter. “I’d like to pursue the music video thing very much. I also just love going to galleries, like the Wilson Street gallery or the Shepherd Gallery.” “I really like meeting people I don’t know, actually. Just going straight in to an interview and hearing about their work, finding out where people get their inspiriation from.”
Peter’s background is in art, so his interviews do benefit from having a deep understanding of the subject matter. However, recently the addition of a camera and some nice opportunities have turned his eyes towards music. “I’ve been painting now for ten or so years, I’m a painter and collagist. Then I got a camera with a Marrickville council grant to do an exhibition and film. It was all from the idea of putting a slideshow of my paintings to music and I thought, hey, I really like moving pictures.”
So armed with his camera and keen interest in artistry of all kinds, he says that the medium of video is important for artists of all kinds and is hoping people will start to really embrace it in order to enhance communication between members of the art scene. “It’s handy for painters because often you just send images [to curators] and you don’t get a feel for the person.”
“I’d like to do more music videos of original music with bands,” he tells me. “Specifically around the inner west.” With a real love of art, artists, communication and this city, it seems that Pedro TV could be one of the few people out there who isn’t out to rape artists for their money, legitimacy and integrity to make a few bucks. Which is nice, really. Armed with a moving-picture-device, sturdy morals and a sense of creativity, Peter makes a good case for the rest of us to start taking video a bit more seriously, given that we live in an increasingly visual world.

Synopsis: A reclusive taxidermist, through falling in love, reconnects with the living world from which he has withdrawn from.
I am looking for a Sydney based Producer to help with finding finance & producing a short film slated for release mid 2010. Ideally the project’s logistics are suited to someone who has had previous industry experience with budgeting, crew logistics, film (motion picture stock) and is wanting to become an industry professional in their field – graduates are more than welcome.
This is a fresh and exciting project that is aiming for the international film festival market. Although it will be very demanding it will also be a rewarding credit to add to your portfolio. This is also a paid position and your rate will be discussed upon the budget being finalized.

yeah wrote this awhile back but NOW rubber is hitting the road…have the amended script…going to a film distribution tutorial tommorrow night at Red Rattler performance space in Marrickville delivered by John Simpson..who had that well-recieved indy film “the men’s group” last year..seems he took it all over regional oz and showed it digitally to film groups…prisons…would love to show GAS COIN in Goulburn at their film club…

so Sunday 18-4-2010 sees “YES IN AUSTRALIA” booklaunch @ 3 @ some pub in glebe.>>>>>then must quickly taxi to groovy CAD factory in marrickville for FOUNDER, kurt’s hot band…@ 5pm
supporting mick turner…a dude from THE DIRTY THREE which also boasts nick cave’s co-soundtrack composer and violinist, Warren Ellis…t’would be cool to meet both…but anyhoo my assignment is to film 1 piece by FOUNDER (post-rock elongated soundscapes/noise merchants) on stage between the 3 members…gunna be intense..i may get bruises…these guys are primal,wild…they are all well over 6 feet…joe the drummer is more like 7 feet tall….i don’t normally like to stand next to them all at the bar…my neck cranes so >>>>
so…………can’t wait as travis,the guitarist is working on music-videos with ken for NOVEMBERISM and other festivals
so hoping to get people motivated and aware of NOVEMBERISM

GAS COIN opening montage shoot @ Goulburn Historic Train Museum and the Big Merino____________________________________
kurt and i zoooooomed down the highway to goulburn,briefly stopping at the coolabah cafe for a pepper-steak pie+apple juice (slightly hungover from THE DEAD WEATHER gig the night before)…beautiful,autumnal day…sunny and warm…we found the train museum and walked inside,guided tours were $AUD8 and as Kurt panned the semi-circular depot (it was once circular and feels like some ancient Greek temple if ancient greeks worshipped old trains,,,,as Dale our guide does….came to work here in 1961 (when i was born….not cause he loved steamtrains that much,he disliked the army more)
so i took shots and Kurt interviewed a bewhiskered old train hand called Whiskey who told the worst old jokes…(kurt and his wife Marika do documentaries)…currently documenting the last drive-in cinema in Sydney…he loves meeting ol’ characters for their quirky stories….Whiskey followed us out to the car still telling awful sailor jokes eg: “what do you give a sailor with everything?”
“penicillin”.
great feeling to be inside the circle with it’s huge,central turntable track that can turn and spin the engines in any direction…so we then went to the big Merino and did scene for film…nice to wrap up there as we started there doing our location scouting last year (the making of GAS COIN Part 1)
always cool to travel with the Kurtmeister and checkout his alt,country gothic cowboy music like will oldham,johnny cash,nick cave,gene vincent,nancy sinatra etc and i threw P.J.Harvey into the mix….the album “uh-huh” …which sounded very Deadweathery!!!
so monday night we film a night scene with goran + brother robero and kurt has to do a little bit with goran and the editting can begin >>>>> so hopefully film ready by august or somesuch……….for cast+crew+friends premiere @ ATVP_____________________
